JUST ADDED ON 1/17 - THE SIEGE OF PETERSBURG - A Neat Soft Tissue Impact Mushroomed Bullet - Possibly a Confederate Gardner
This mushroomed fired bullet appears to be what is sometimes called a soft tissue impact bullet - meaning it passed through something like leather, cloth or flesh. Although I can't say for certain, it does appears to have a cavity insert which would imply that it is a Confederate Gardner bullet. It was recovered at Petersburg, probably in the 1960s. This bullet was in the large Pennsylvania collection of William Reger, who carefully identified the relics, which were recovered in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. A provenance letter will be included.
