JUST ADDED ON 1/19 - THE BATTLE OF MONOCACY / HILL EAST OF THE BLOCK HOUSE - .58 Caliber Confederate Gardner Bullet - from a Relic Hunter's Old Boxed Collection
A dropped .58 caliber Gardner bullet that comes out of a box that was labeled "Monocacy - Hill East of Block House" - it was probably recovered in the late 1960s or early 1970s. I have included a photo of the original box, but this box is not included with the relic. It comes from the collection of a Maryland relic hunter who stored everything that he found in small cardboard boxes that were carefully labeled with the location where they came from. Monocacy, sometimes called "The Battle that Saved Washington," was an important 1864 battle that delayed the approach of Jubal Early's Confederate army towards an essentially undefended capital. There were two block houses on the battlefield - both were part of the Union defenses. This is the first time that this relic has been offered to the public for sale having come fresh out of the relic hunter's estate. A provenance letter with the relic hunter's name will be included.
