JUST ADDED ON 10/21 - BATTLE OF SPOTSYLVANIA / HARRIS FARM - BILL GAVIN COLLECTION - Two Bullets SP-BGHF02

These two bullets, a dropped .58 caliber and a fired .58 caliber, were a part of the William "Bill" Gavin collection. These bullets were in a grouping that Gavin originally identified as having been found at the Harris Farm in Spotsylvania. Bill Gavin is one of the most famous relic hunters, in part because he has been credited as the first person to use a metal detector to do so (in the late 1940s at Cold Harbor). Gavin accumulated a large collection of Civil War relics and was a respected member of the collecting community until he passed away a few years ago. The Battle at the Harris Farm was fought on May 19, 1864 as a part of the larger Battle at Spotsylvania. The 1st Massachusetts and 1st Maine Heavy Artillery lost heavily in the fight (almost 900 casualties between the two of them). A provenance letter will be included.
