JUST ADDED ON 12/14 - GETTYSBURG - LITTLE ROUND TOP - ROSENSTEEL FAMILY - Base of an Artillery Shell with Sabot
This is either the base (3 inch diameter and 1 3/4 inch tall) of a Parrott or a Read artillery shell with the sabot still attached (there is too much damage to the base for me to make a determination about which it is). It was found on Little Round Top at Gettysburg. This artifact was a part of the collection of Iva Rosensteel, sister of George Rosensteel (founder of the Gettysburg National Museum and the famous Electric Map) so the provenance could not be better - it still has identification tape on it that was placed there by the Rosensteels. This is the first time that this artifact is being offered for public sale and I feel very privileged in the opportunity to offer it. The Rosensteels were, of course, the most famous artifact collecting family in Gettysburg and the bulk of the relics on display at today's Gettysburg National Park Visitor Center come from the Rosensteels. A signed provenance letter will be provided with this relic.
