JUST ADDED ON 12/14 - THE BATTLE OF CROSS KEYS / THE BLUFF / JACKSON'S VALLEY CAMPAIGN - Fired Bullet with Ram Rod Mark WB-CKB21
A fired .58 caliber bullet with ram rod mark that was recovered from "The Bluff" on the Cross Keys battlefield. This could be a reference to the bluff occupied by the Confederates during the battle. This bullet comes from the collection of Wilbur Bedall, a thirty year relic hunter who amassed a large collection of artifacts and carefully recorded the location of recovery for the items that he found. The Battle of Cross Keys, fought on June 8, 1862, gave Stonewall Jackson his first important victory in the Valley, after defeating the Union Army of General Fremont which had twice as many men. Jackson's Valley Campaign demonstrated the ability of the general and ultimately allowed him to reinforce General Lee outside of Richmond as the Union Army in the Valley, after stinging defeats, had been placed on the defensive. It was the battlefield at Cross Keys that was featured in the popular book "Battlefield: Farming a Civil War Battleground." A provenance letter will be included.
