JUST ADDED ON 5/16 - CONFEDERATE CAMP WIGFALL, MANASSAS, VIRGINIA - Unusual Carved Bullet / Lead Item with Relic Hunter's Original Label
This one is definitely unusual. The relic hunter noted how it looks like a Spencer casing. I think it might have actually been a plug or cap to something - maybe some kind of plug from a Confederate side loader shell? I don't know, but it is interesting. According to the original handwritten label, it came out of the early war Confederate camp known as Camp Wigfall, which was near Manassas (described on the label as near Union Mills). About eight years ago, I walked into the Horse Soldier at Gettysburg and found that they had just added a group of artifacts with original collector's labels to one of the shelves. Since I am interested in items with good provenance, I picked out the items that I thought were most unique. I just rediscovered this group, so I am offering them in today's update. The Horse Soldier's inventory number is written on the back of the label. A provenance letter will be included.
