JUST ADDED ON 9/14 - THE BATTLE OF TURNER'S GAP / SOUTH MOUNTAIN - Fired Washington Arsenal Bullet - found 1979-1981
This fired Washington Arsenal bullet (star in the cavity) was found by Charles Franklin on the battlefield of Turner's Gap (private property with permission) between 1979 and 1981. Franklin primarily hunted on land, just south of the National Road, that was crossed by the IX Corps during the attack on the Confederate defensive positions (I have included a map within the photos showing this area). I acquired this relic directly from Mr. Franklin's family. The Battle of Turner's Gap, fought on September 14th, 1862, as part of the battles at South Mountain, provided General Lee the vital time that he needed to gather his army near Sharpsburg which ultimately led to the Battle of Antietam. I will e-mail a letter with the specific provenance information.
