This brass rosette (1 11/16 inch diameter - missing the attachment on the back but you can see the marks where it was), of a style that is sometimes referred to as a bullseye style rosette or an artillery rosette, was recovered from the Cedar Creek battlefield. The Battle of Cedar Creek, a very important 1864 engagement that was fought close to Winchester, VA. is known to history for the famous ride made by General Sheridan in an effort to rally his army after a surprise Confederate attack. A provenance letter will be included.
