MARCH 24TH/25TH – TWENTY-ONE ARTIFACTS WERE ADDED TO THE CATALOG, INCLUDING RELICS FROM EXCELSIOR FIELD IN GETTYSBURG, MILLER’S CORNFIELD AND DUNKER CHURCH IN ANTIETAM, CHANCELLORSVILLE AND MALVERN HILL!

It is all about the provenance!  When I began collecting Civil War artifacts back when I was a child, I was always much more interested in the recovery location of an artifact than the rarity or value of the artifact itself.  As a historian, I have made every effort to acquire artifacts with solid provenance.  The intent of this website is to offer Civil War relics with a historical connection so that the collector can feel secure in the knowledge that they are getting something from a specific event or place.  Each item includes a provenance letter with all of the details that I know about the piece.

Product Details

Three brass relics - a coat-sized button back, the match striker portion of a match safe and an accoutrement stud with leather still attached - that were found in the area that was occupied by Heth's Division on July 1st, 1863 during its attacks on McPherson's Ridge - more specifically, it was recovered between Herr's Ridge Road and Country Club Road. These artifacts were a part of the collection of Iva Rosensteel, sister of George Rosensteel (founder of the Gettysburg National Museum and the famous Electric Map) so the provenance could not be better. This is the first time that these artifacts are being offered for public sale and I feel very privileged in the opportunity to offer them. The Rosensteels were, of course, the most famous artifact collecting family in Gettysburg and the bulk of the relics on display at today's Gettysburg National Park Visitor Center come from the Rosensteels. A provenance letter will be provided with these relics.
