JUST ADDED ON 8/16 - 1863 CAMP ON THE RAPPAHANNOCK / WENTWORTH MILITARY ACADEMY COLLECTION - Pewter Spoon Bowl found in 1959 with Relic Hunter's Original Label
This large pewter spoon bowl (3 3/4 inches long) was found at the site of an 1863 camp along the Rappahannock River in February, 1959 and still has the relic hunter's original handwritten label attached. It originally came from the Wentworth Military Academy Collection. A large collection of dug relics, most with labels or in boxes indicating their recovery location and date (apparently put there by the unknown digger), which was originally held by the academy (located in Missouri), was sold at auction in the summer of 2008. I will include a letter with the specific provenance.
