JUST ADDED ON 8/29 - THE BATTLE OF ANTIETAM / MILLER'S CORNFIELD / EAST WOODS - Large Link from a Heavy Chain - Artillery Related? - recovered in 1968
A heavy link from an iron chain (4 5/8 x 2 1/4 inches (weighs over 9 ounces)) that was recovered in the East Woods/Miller's Cornfield area on February 4, 1968. This comes from the collection of a Maryland relic hunter who kept everything that he found on each hunt in small identified cardboard boxes. There is, of course, no way of determining if this artifact is connected to the battle, but considering how heavy it is, I think that there is definitely a possibility that it was from something connected to the artillery or perhaps a supply wagon. A provenance letter will be included.
